Keepers Match Play-Results

Posted on Updated on

Keepers and GavelSix months and close to 40 matches later we congratulate the 2014 Keepers Match Play Champion Mike The Coach Fisher on his perseverance and excellent play in winning seven matches on his way to the Keepers Match Play Championship.  In the final match he had to play his best golf, winning 2 up after 18 holes, beating last year’s defending Match Play champion Billy B Burak.  These two shot 76 and 80 respectively in a match that was contested tightly throughout.   Billy B had the lead by one after fifteen holes and command of the match, but made a putting error on the par three sixteenth and all of a sudden the match was back to even.  The 17th is often a pivotal hole but usually because one guy makes a mistake.  But this time Fish seized the day with a sensational approach leading to an unexpected birdie to take a lead he would not relinquish.  This was a dramatic final match he will savor for a long time to come.

In the semi-final matches that got these two here Mike beat Neal Bobys and Billy took out Kaptin Keith Eig.

For his win Mike will get the fabled Keepers Match Play Wood Plaque and $250 in Kash Sweeps, Billy takes home the runner-up plaque and $150 in Kash Sweeps, and Neal and Keith get $75 in Kash Sweeps each for reaching the Final Fore.  The final match play standings can be seen through the Keepers Match Play link on the right of this screen.

The change in the early seeding that pitted guys of similar handicap against each other in the first two rounds seemed to add to verve to this year’s competition.  We had some riveting matches in every round right down to the end.
