The Keepers usher in their 9th season of Keepers kompetition, kamaraderie, and kommunity service events with great anticipation. Our enrollment has blossomed to 91 suspects who will have the opportunity to participate in up to 22 Keepers and Woodmont golf events this year.
All these events have Keepers Kup Points awarded to the top Keeper finishers that lead to our Keepers Kup Finale September 17th when the cherished Kopper Keepers Kup will be awarded to the last man standing at the top of the heap. The schedule includes all the significant Woodmont events and a number of reinvented or revived goodies from our Keepers archives.
Keepers Year Long Match Play: The steady growth of our roster has made the traditional single grid of 64 slots for this event unworkable. Using a modified approach authored by our Keepers Kreative Kompetition Subgroup there will be three 32 slot brackets where the 3 bracket winners will advance to an 18-hole Battle Royale Finale to decide the champion. To win a bracket a player will have to win five matches over the period from April to August culminating with the Battle Royale in late August/early September.
The Augusta, Oakmont, and Troon brackets will be populated using the patented SC seeding formula which gave us three groups of 32 guys with a similar array of handicaps from top to bottom. The genius of the formula is that it guarantees players of similar handicaps will play in the first two matches so that not many strokes will be given. It takes five match wins to reach the finale and Keepers Kup Points are awarded for each match win.
The Battle Royale is a three-man 18 hole 5-3-1 match. On each hole the lowest net score gets 5 points, second low net 3 points, and third low net 1 point. Sweeps and trophies are at stake and the guy with the most points walking off the 18th green is our Keepers Year Long Match Play winner.
Because of our odd number there will be 7 players with byes in the first round based on the top 4 finishers in last year’s Match Play and the top 3 finishers in last year’s Keepers Kup. The seeding and match grid for the Keepers Match Play will be emailed out around the first of March.
Two-Man Alt. Shot Series: This returns again this year with three weekday night match evenings sprinkled over May through July. You get to pick your partner for this entertaining alternate shot format and remember you only need to play in two of the first three evenings to have a chance to qualify for the Final Fore event in August and the super kool trophy and the sweeps.
Keepers Kolor War: After a kooling off absence last year this innovative 27-hole team event returns in mid May. Four teams of six to eight players (up to 32 Keepers) will compete across 3 different nine hole formats for a bunch of sweeps and serious bragging rights.
We will be hard pressed to match the theme success of Hot Shoppes and The Magical Mystery Tour of our two previous iterations but our marketing gerbils are hard at work on a new and original theme for this year’s epic struggle.
Whoopee Kup: The Young Guns have been klamoring for revenge in the return of this team event for bragging rights between the Young Turks and the Kagey Old Kodgers, Our representatives are kurrently in taut negotiations on how to reformulate this team summer kompetition. It may involve a couple of weekday nights or a single Sunday epic battle so stay tuned for more details.
The Keepers will once again support our own Green Tee Option in our Keepers events, including the Keepers Match Play, which will allow those gentlemen Keepers 70 or over with a handicap index of 15.0 or higher to choose to play from the designated forward tee with an event handicap calculated from that tee. In spite of the USGA recommendation on this issue, no further accommodation of shots must be surrendered by those using this option.
To make this offer more consistent from one course to the next, the option on the North Course where the Keepers field plays the Gentlemen’s Gold Tees is the Green Tee at 5716 yards and a 123 Slope. On the South Course where we play from the Blue Tees the option will be to play from the Blue/Green Combo Tees on the scorecard at 5853 yards and a 123 Slope. Those to which this option will be available will be notified prior to the events.
As is our tradition sign ups for these events will be done through the Keepers Golf website event postings about two weeks before each event. If you want to enlist a partner for the Alt Shot Series now before all the prime candidates disappear you can email Konnor at cfarrell@WoodmontCC.com and we will start to assemble the roster of teams for this kompetition.
On the kommunity service front The Keepers will once again sponsor a Wounded Warriors Outing and a First Tee Outing which you are all welcome to support and participate in. The success of the Keepers Golf /Greens and Grounds Staff Appreciation Kook-Out will be repeated during the summer or fall as well as our direct donations to the Woodmont Employee Assistance Fund, Marines Helping Marines, Alzheimers Association, and Players Pool Military Charities. As we did last year the Players Pool collections will go to support the SMGA/Wounded Warriors, Folds of Honor Foundation, and the Israeli Defense Forces Veterans Fund.
Supporting the traditions of the game through advocacy of the rules, maintenance of our golfing facilities, and support of fair scoring and handicaps is another part of our charge. The entertaining and effective learn-while-you-pee campaign for rules education and proper golf etiquette behaviors will be returning for it’s third year.
