Keepers Alternate Shot Series 2016 Match 1-Results
The clouds had finally parted and the rain abated for our opening night of the 2016 Keepers Alternate Shot Match Play Series. There was serious pregame chatter next to the practice green anticipating the shotgun start of this first of three 18-point Alternate Shot Matches being played over the next three months. In the end using their best two match results, the top four teams will advance to the Series Final Fore.
There is no evidence in the scripture that Moses and Aaron and their boys played a little two-ball Alternate Shot match on Tuesday evenings in the Sinai but, with cart path only last night, there was a bit of hit and wander going on among the tribes. To be effective at this game, Alternate Shot is best played as the Eric Segal Love Story format…..never having to say you’re sorry. Those who ignored the pain they were inflicting on their partners fared the best last night.
The defending champs Brecher-Greenberg did not have their A-Games in Match 1 and went down heavily 10.5 to 7.5 to Kleinman-Lipnick. The standings leaders after night one are the two teams of John “Freakazoid” Freidson and Paul “Pablo” Cohen and Howard “Stogie” Wollner and Marc “Medical Miracle” Birnbaum who scored 11.5 of the 18 points in their first matches. After Kleinman-Lipnick three tandems are at 10 points-Monroe “Breezy” Brett and Ron “Check My Calendar” Edlavitch, Marc “The Bronx Bantam” Fink and Richard “By Northwest” North, and Billy “Tingly” Burak and Rich “Have You Processed My Appeal” Greenberg.

Other than complaining about the speed of food service, the post game meal in the Trophy Room was replete with big fish stories about the day’s individual accomplishments. Great fun was had by all who participated…..looks like the future of Alternate Shot for The Keepers is so bright it will need sunglasses.
