Complete additions to your golf wardrobe with either a white Old Norse sun hat or an azure blue performance baseball hat bearing the Keepers K Logo.   The four items you choose are covered as part of your Annual Keepers Fee for 2022 of $380.

Peter Millar Kollection

Millar Print Shirts On Two Guys 2

Peter Millar has been at the forefront of themed print golf shirts in tech materials that liven up your wardrobe for a different look when strolling the links.  We picked two of them, a white ground Arnold Palmer Half & Half print, a testimony to the drink the King introduced that changed the 19th hole forever, and a navy Golf Landmarks print that depicts iconic images from famous courses across the globe.  These shirts are the classic fit 3-button placket with moisture wicking comfort and UPF sun protection built in.  If you prefer an alternative we have the solid navy Performance Tech Shirt that will work nicely for you.

The sunbeam long sleeve or the navy vest 1/4 Zip Perth Pullovers provide a perfect complement to the shirts on one of those hands-in-the-pockets early tee time days.  Made of four way stretch French Terry the performance fabric is easy care machine washable and has a mock collar and banded bottom for a smart fit.  All of these items are sized S, M, L, XL, and XXL.  For those in need of a little more wiggle room the navy shirt and navy vest come in XXXL.

In response to popular demand we have added to to this year’s kollection the Imperial White Old Norse Sun Hat to protect your keppie on those hot sundrenched summer days.  Made of a kooling tech fabric it wicks away moisture and vents it off through the mesh side panels.  This one comes in two sizes-S/M and L/XL so make sure you try it on for a proper fit.  For those who want to go more konventional we have an solid Azure Baseball Hat made of the super light tech material that makes Imperial hats so popular.

If you would like to purchase an additional golf shirt, pullover, or hat, we will charge your Woodmont account $65 for a print shirt or Perth vest, $60 for a solid shirt, $85 for the long sleeve Perth , $30 for the Old Norse hat or $20 for the Baseball Hat.  Just indicate that you want extra pieces when you submit your choices of the four items you have coming to you as part of your annual fee.

Keepers Kup Playoffs Results 2021

Posted on Updated on

Once again this year we had a two-phase format for the final leg to determine the Keepers Kup Champions.  The first phase was played on the Bent of the North Course the first week in September followed by a final 18 holes on the Zoysia on Sunday September 19th.

Keepers Kups 2021
2021 Keepers Kup Winners: American Division-Don Fisher and Brian Fein National Division-Neal Bobys and Bob Fogel

In the Bent Phase the American Division was dominated by Steve “Lear Jet” Lerman and Ronnie “The Tooth” Rosenberg who scorched the field with a pair of net 68’s to take the top prize. Allen “Return To Sender” Zweig was close behind with a net 69 for third. Two were tied fourth with net 70, Don “Star Kiss” Fisher and Jimmy “Here and There” Polsky.

The Nationals had a similar scenario with Ron “Separdie” Dweck and Bobby “Jack Lalanne” Fogel throwing down net 67’s to win the division. Third alone was Burt “Cuddly Bear” Feldman with net 69. A tie for fourth between Rich “Sweet Man” Sussman and Kolman “Chaps” Apt who shot net 71.

This left the Lead Dogs to beat going into the Zoysia Phase as Don Fisher and Neal Bobys, but there was still a number of guys who could snatch the Kups if they did not post a decent number and protect their positions at the top of the American and National Division Standings respectively.

Lead Dog Trophies 2021
Lead Dogs entering the final phase: Don Fisher-American Division–Neal Bobys-National Division

We could not have asked for a more perfect golf day on the South Course-recently nicknamed little Arizona due to Ryan’s efficient grass management program.  It was sunny, clear, comfortably in the 70’s.  The fairways were lush and giving no roll, the roughs were toasted and mostly lift, clean, and place, and the greens had just enough pace to keep your attention.

The playing conditions and the playoff pressure combined to make it a difficult scoring day, no one in the field of over 50 Keepers managed a net round under par.  The front nine created lots of hopeful expectation yielding net birdies galore, but the back nine showed it’s teeth, where high scores were lurking, and many found their hopes come crashing back to the ground in a heap.

In the American Division Don “Star Kiss” Fisher played a solid round as a front runner, shooting a one under par 34 on the front which included birdies on 5 and 9.  Leaking a little oil on the inward nine he had a 41 for gross 75/net 71.  This tied him for first with two others, Jimmy “Mostly Here” Polsky and Howard “I Filed For An Extension” Wollner.  Jimmy was steady with 40-41-81 and Howard was more cyclical with 35-45-80 but they both ended up net 71.  Tied fourth were at net 72 were Yale “Truth and Light” Kaplan, Artie “The Sundance Kid” Aronoff, and Arnie “20/20” Miller.

Once the Points and Sweeps were metted out, you can check them out through the “Results Of The Zoysia Phase” link below, Star Kiss maintained his grasp on the Keepers Kup and Brian “Moving Violation” Fein took second as Truth and Light fell just short of catching him due to the three-way share on the fourth place points.

Fisher American Winner
Star Kiss kapped a dominating season long performance in the Americans with today’s net 71 to hoist the Kopper Kup.

The Nationals had a similar result though there were some excellent individual performance by guys who were theoretically not in the mix.  Chet “Multiple Lives” Levine took first in the Zoysia Phase using his 23 shots wisely on the way to a fine Net 72.  Tied second with Net 75s were Rick “Orange Line” Cohen, Bernie “Dental Floss” Greenbaum, and Herbie “The Ageless Wonder” Cherner.

This put a scare in the hearts of the leaders who clearly were not going to get the top Kup Points or Kash Sweeps in this phase.  Tied fifth were Neal “Found My Putting Stroke” Bobys, Steve “What Are We Playing For” Keller, and Phil “Musaf Express” Schulman with Net 76.  Once again you can see the Zoysia prizing through the link below.

With all the Zoysia tumult in the Nationals the top five positions in the division for the Kup remained unchanged.  Neal took the Nationals Top Prize for the second year running and second fell to Bobby “Jack Lalane” Fogel who had an outstanding year winning two events and finishing top five in three others.  Alan “Terp Station” Schwartz was third, followed in fourth by Mark “Acute” Engel, and Herbie “The Other Ageless Wonder” Kushner who finished fifth.

Bobys National Winner
Neal used strong performances in the Match Play, Woodmont Two-Man Team, Woodmont Flighted Club Championship, and Woodmont Senior Championship on his way to winning the Kup this year.

Special thanks to our main man Konnor and his staff for the support and assistance in administering our program through the year.  Let’s not forget Cathy Goodrich for her efforts in keeping us looking sharp in this year’s Keepers Klothing Kollection.

Thanks to all of you for making this Keepers Kampaign of 2021 such a success with your enthusiastic participation.

Keepers First Tee Mentor Outing 2021

Posted on Updated on

In keeping with the past tradition, The Keepers will hold our annual First Tee Mentor Outing on Friday August 13th from 11 to 3 pm.  This is a fun day of “being a grandparent” to 35 wonderful kids from the Greater Washington DC First Tee Programs.  The kids age from 8 to 17 but all share two things in common-they love golf and know how to comport themselves in a golfing environment.

Full Group Shot 1
With 35 kids, staff, and volunteers it was a full house for the 2019 First Tee Outing

We invite Keepers and All Woodmont Members to be a volunteer/mentor and help us put on this awesome event.

In the past we have raised over $3,000 to donate to the First Tee Programs of Greater Washington through the generosity of the Woodmont membership.  You can make a donation to sponsor a kid for this event for just $60.   The cost of this event is totally underwritten by The Keepers, so the full proceeds of these sponsorship donations will go to The First Tee Of Greater Washington.

Keepers Pinehurst Glenmorangie 2021

Posted on Updated on

Our next full field event is the Keepers Pinehurst Glenmorangie 2021 to be played on the North Course on Sunday August 15th with scheduled tee times between 10:05 am and 12:15 pm.

This is a “Pinehurst Scotch” format that blends Scramble and Alternate Shot elements into an entertaining Two-Man Team Kompetition.   You must choose your partner for this kompetition so mend some fences and find a friend to play with before you sign up.

All players are playing from the Gold Tees (there is no Green Tee Option for this event).  There is a team handicap calculated with the USGA Formula for these type of events and it is based on each partners 80% course handicap on the North Gold Tees.  Team Handicap will be the sum of 60% of the lower handicap partner’s handicap and 40% of the higher handicap partner’s handicap.

Once you finish your round turn in your scorecard to the desk in the golf shop.

The rules are quite simple:

A. Both golfers on the team hit drives.

B. They walk forward to their balls, but then switch balls for the second shot.  Partner A hits Partner B’s ball, Partner B hits Partner A’s ball.

C. After the second shot they compare the results and select the ball to play on, picking up the other.

D. The person whose shot is chosen steps aside for the third stroke and they play alternate shot until the ball is holed.

E. Strokes on each hole are applied based on the team handicap to get a Net Score.

That is the Keepers Pinehurst Glenmorangie-hit drives, switch balls for the second shot, pick up the worst ball, and play alternate shot into the hole.  This should play rapidly if you limit consultation on the alternate shots to two sentences (which is more than adequate for players of Keepers ability).

What is kool about this alternate shot version is that to win you have to play the Par 3’s well, getting two balls on the green to give your team more opportunities for net birdies or better.  The 5 Pars on the other hand are high pressure seeing that they are shot holes where a net par probably loses a shot to the field.

Event Prizes Per Man:

Keepers Kash Sweeps: 1st-$100, 2nd-$80, 3rd-$60, 4th $40, 5th $20

Keepers Kup Points:  1st (300), 2nd (200), 3rd  (150), 4th (100), 5th (50)

This is a chance to find your alt shot geshtalt and enhance your Kup Standings Position/Sweeps Balances at the same time.

Remember you must sign up with a partner….just hit the Glenmorangie Logo below to sign up.

Keepers Half Sets 2021

Posted on Updated on

The next Keepers event of this season is an old favorite we call “Half Sets” (a.k.a. 7-Klub) and it will be played with set tee times on Thursday June 3rd between 12:00 and 2:00 pm.  This format is an individual kompetition that asks you to navigate the 18 holes on the Zoysia South Course with a “half set” made up of your choice of your favorite 7 clubs.

Half CowAs is our custom in full field events we will split the field into two divisions-American (Handicap Index 15.0 and below) and National (Handicap Index of 15.1 or higher) and there will be prizing for five low net finishers in each bracket.  Americans play the Blue Tees and Nationals can choose between the Blue or the Blue/Green Combo Tees.  Everyone gets 100% of their handicap from the tees they are playing from.

It is your job to designate your 7 clubs for the day before you head to the first tee and play all the shots of the day with those implements.  Keepers Honor Kode prevails so it is up to you to komply faithfully with the rules of the day.

Success in this event relies on kritical thinking on club selection as you plan for the day.  The par 3’s are likely to draw your attention as you pick your clubs but don’t forget about positioning for the approach shots on the 11 par 4’s….there are lots of those.

You can build a foursome of friends to play with by registering them together through the sign up form below. Anyone signing up with less than four guys or as a single will be grouped by us into foursomes.  Please sign up for the event through the Kosher K link below between now and Thursday May 20th at 6 p.m.

When registration closes we will email you a list of the two divisions with event handicaps, the tee sheet, and a blank scorecard you can use for the event.  Once you have completed your round please tally your Gross and Net Scores and turn in the card at the Golf Shop.

Event Prizing Top Scores In Each Division:

Keepers Kup Points to the top (5)-1st 300, 2nd 200, 3rd 150, 4th 100, 5th 50

Kash Sweeps to the top (5)-1st $100, 2nd $80, 3rd $60, 4th $40, 5th $20

This event challenges you to play outside your komfort zone, but you may be surprised how effective you can be if you pick the right clubs.  Don’t get shut out of this fun-we have a limit of 52 players for this event.

Keepers Flap Jacks 2021

Posted on Updated on

Flap Jacks PhotoThe next full-field Keepers event is a delectable old favorite, a 3-Man Team affair, we call Flap Jacks to be played on the South Course between Tuesday May 11th and Wednesday May 19th.

Kustomize your team by assembling three buddies and enter them when you sign up below.  If you are unaffiliated just email Moe at and we will place you on a team with others who are searching for komplimentary kompetitive talent.

For this event Keepers with a handicap index of 15.0 or less will play the Blue Tees with 90% of their course handicap.  Those with a handicap index of 15.1 or more can choose to play the Blue Tees or the Blue/Green Combo Tees with 90% of the course handicap from the tees they choose.

The unique team format counts two net scores on each hole.  On the Odd Holes the team counts their two best net ball scores and on the Even Holes the team’s two not-so-best-ball scores will count.  The total score of the two net balls counted on each of the eighteen holes is the team Flap Jack Score.

The point is simple….butter that griddle generously because every man’s score has a chance to matter on every hole.
